emerging from their former homeland called Aztlan or "place of the herons", an island in a lake where men went out to fish from boats. Aztec codices record that they began their wandering journey in 1100 A.D. The origin of the Aztec (Azteca) Empire is legendary. Colonial era codices exist in greater number with roughly 500 separate codices known, showing extensive pictograms as well as being written in Spanish, Latin and in the original Nahuatl language. These codices were created by the Aztecs in pictorial form, as well as by other indigenous tribal sources, all of which had no written language. An extensive and detailed collection of written and pictorial records exist for us today called CODICES (CODEX if singular) were produced before Spanish contact by the native tribes themselves, and afterwards during the Colonial period. While many ancient civilizations remain a mystery, little can be left to conjecture when it comes to the details of the Aztec way of life. I mpacted sediment and mineralized deposits are deep in microscopic crevices - traits ONLY seen in AUTHENTIC SPECIMENS. RARELY does a core of this quality and size ever survive as the long blades these cores produced, were continuously removed from the core until virtually nothing was left of a small, incomplete core of shorter length and a thin, exhausted cross-sectional profile.Įvidence of ancient use is apparent on the striking platform and faceted gourd-like form from prismatic blades having been struck from this core. Blades were systematically struck off the sides of the core as it was rotated in series as each blade was removed. The core was stood on its curved end and struck from the top. ![]() ![]() The prized prismatic obsidian blades used and traded by the Aztecs required skillfully prepared and struck blade cores like this specimen. These blades were heavily used in the design of many of their weapons such as the unusual Macuahuitl obsidian blade club, a weapon so effective that it was once documented in an ancient codex to have decapitated a Spanish conquistador's horse with a single blow from an Aztec warrior. It was really light and it’s length around 10 inches.Finding Pre-Columbian prismatic obsidian blade cores that are large, complete and not fully exhausted, are EXTREMELY RARE! Here is one of those very rare opportunities to acquire a textbook-perfect, museum-class specimen! The Aztecs above all other Pre-Columbian cultures, were famous for mastering the manufacture of core-struck long, unbroken prismatic blades in obsidian. It’s naturally made and a handle was attached to it. The knife is made from obsidian which a volcanic glass that is really sharp. Afterwards the enemies were kept alive, as prisoners and were later used for ceremonial purposes, such as human sacrifice. The jaguar warriors fought the near tribes and often won, creating the famous Aztec Empire. When it came to its use in warfare it was considered effective. From what it’s currently found it could easily be spotted that each knife could be considered unique and it has its own representation. The problem here is that too little knives only survived. There are different types of knives used for this ritual, shape and design to make the ritual more pleasant. The victim was still alive while his hearth was removed. This was used for pleasing the gods and had had to do a selected amount of rituals each year. It was used by the priests to open up the chests of the victims so they could extract the hearth. This knife is associated with the beginning of the Aztec mythology and it’s really hard to explain in a short article. It could be used to start a fire making it really useful when you were on a journey or whenever a quick fire is needed. The knife could also be used as a flint because of it’s material. The knife has multiple meanings and it has big importance in their world, this is the reason for using it in their human sacrifice rituals.īesides it’s mythological function this knife was very useful, it had meanings in the Aztec calendar as a symbol, it was a lunar symbol and ruled over agricultural events. It was sharp enough to cause some damage and it could be used from various directions giving it stealth and deadlines.īefore we continue note that this isn’t just a simple knife, it’s one of the most complex symbols of iconographic in the Aztec religion. This knife was traditionally used by the Priests for human sacrifice in the Aztec culture but was also used as a short range secondary weapon by the jaguar warriors. The Tecpatl knife that had a lanceolate figure and was sharpen from both sides of the blade. The Aztec culture is vast and complex, it has many traditions that are considered mysterious and taboo from our perspective. So far A100 GPU system beats all offers available. The new A100 GPU is average 1.5 to 2.5 times faster compared to V100. The baseline for the results was the previous generation king, V100 Volta GPU. But how well does the A100 perform on non-AI benchmarks, and can we expect the A100 to deliver the application improvements we have grown used to with previous GPU generations? In this paper, we benchmark the A100 GPU and compare it to four previous generations of GPUs, with particular focus on empirically quantifying our derived performance expectations, and - should those expectations be undelivered - investigate whether the introduced data-movement features can offset any eventual loss in performance? We find that the A100 delivers less performance increase than previous generations for the well-known Rodinia benchmark suite we show that some of these performance anomalies can be remedied through clever use of the new data-movement features, which we microbenchmark and demonstrate where (and more importantly, how) they should be used. 1.89/H100/hr - on fully optimized, high performance, architecture for model training with NVIDIA H100 SXM5 GPUs (NVLink) and 3200Gbps non blocking IB. ![]() These promising results prove the feasibility of using CNN for real-time event detection from fiber-optic sensing data. We achieved near-perfect predictions for both event classification and localization. The same model is trained again for locating the event with the output layer of the model replaced with linear units. The labeled synthetic data are then used to train a custom convolutional neural network (CNN) model for identifying the presence of fracture-hit events. This model is used to generate two sets of strain rate responses with one set containing fracture-hit events. We start with building a single fracture propagation model to produce strain rate patterns observed at a hypothetical monitoring well. In this paper, “fracture hit” refers to a hydraulic fracture originating from a stimulated well intersecting an offset well. The more » objective of this study is to develop a machine learning-based workflow that can identify and locate fracture-hit events in simulated strain rate responses correlated with low-frequency DAS data. However, the continuous and dense data stream generated live by DAS poses the opportunity for more efficient and accurate real-time data-driven analysis. Analysis of DAS data today is mostly done post-job and subject to interpretation methods. Particularly, low-frequency DAS can detect geomechanical events such as fracture hits because hydraulic fractures propagate and create strain rate variations in the rock. Operators use DAS to monitor hydraulic fracturing activities, examine well stimulation efficacy, and estimate complex fracture system geometries. ![]() Summary Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) has been used in the oil and gas industry as an advanced technology for surveillance and diagnostics. The generality of the used CF-CNN was thus demonstrated, while the use of the graph-theoretical descriptors assisted in interpreting the predicted results. Our graph analysis suggests that the mean degree and number of polygons for networks with larger errors tend to lie further from the mean than those with lower errors. Using topology measures, such as the Wiener index and the average shortest path length along with two similarity measures, we showed that all networks from the test set were within the range of the ones from the training set, suggesting that the training set covered the chemical space of interest quite well. The graph-theoretical descriptors were developed in order to analyze the properties of the full database and interpret the predictive power of the CF-CNN. In addition, clusters of sizes not included in the training set exhibited errors of the same magnitude, indicating that the CF-CNN ptotocol is general enough to accurately predict energies of networks for both smaller and larger sizes than those used during training. =10, 30) yielded a mean absolute error of 0.002$$\pm$$0.002 kcal/mol per water molecule, giving the trained CF-CNN the highest accuracy of any neural network-based surrogate model to date. Furthermore, this CNN model trained by the data augmentation technique would not only open numerous potential applications for identifying XRD patterns for different materials, but also pave avenues to autonomously analyze data by other characterization tools such as FTIR, Raman, and NMR spectroscopies. Analysis on the class activation maps of the last CNN layer further discloses more » the mechanism by which the CNN model successfully identifies individual MOFs from the XRD patterns. ![]() Neighborhood component analysis (NCA) on the experimental XRD samples shows that the samples from the same material are clustered in groups in the NCA map. For the task of discriminating, the optimized model showed the highest identification accuracy of 96.7% for the top 5 ranking on a test data set of 30 hold-out samples. It was then randomly shuffled and split into training (58 292 samples) and validation (14 572 samples) data sets at a ratio of 4:1. Theoretical MOFs patterns (1012) were augmented to a whole data set of 72 864 samples. For the first time, one-to-one material identification was achieved. To augment the data for training the model, noise was extracted from experimental data and shuffled then it was merged with the main peaks that were extracted from theoretical spectra to synthesize new spectra. Herein, we report a convolutional neural network (CNN) that was trained based on theoretical data and very limited experimental data for fast identification of experimental X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Large volumes of data from material characterizations call for rapid and automatic data analysis to accelerate materials discovery. ![]() Want to know the freezing point of carbon dioxide or see how fast it’s evaporating on your custom planet?
